I am Attila Budaházi, a dramatherapist, theatre-maker and workshop facilitator.
Since 1999, when I became a founding member of a theatre established within a minority-language community, I have been deeply engaged with the role of the performing arts in community life. Over two decades, I worked as a dramaturg and script supervisor across a wide range of productions, while also directing and co-producing performances for young audiences. I co-founded and managed the first six editions of a theatre festival dedicated to young people and led workshops for acting students both internationally and in Scotland.
Alongside my artistic practice, I have sought ways to bring theatre closer to communities and run creative workshops across ages and contexts, like teaching drama in a high school, facilitating acting classes in a community centre or developing the curriculum for Erasmus + training programmes. These experiences shaped my belief in theatre as a tool not only for performance but for connection and growth.
In recent years, I have deepened this path by studying dramatherapy at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Dramatherapy, a form of creative arts therapy, offers an alternative to traditional talking therapies by fostering psychological wellbeing through creative and playful processes such as story-making, role-play, improvisation, creative writing, and the integration of art, movement and music.
At this stage of my career, I am passionate about facilitating individuals and communities in the process of finding their voice and sharing their stories through expressive, creative forms.
If you’d like to know more about my work or explore how creative workshops and dramatherapy could support you or your organisation, I’d love to connect.
